With Amazon releasing a cheaper version of the Echo and Google upgrading Alexa, it seems as the voice controlled technology is here for the long haul. The problem, though, is that when listeners request playlists they are not being informed of the artist that is singing the song. Therefore, this becomes an even bigger issue for artists because they must figure out a way to stay memorable when they aren’t being recognized.

Verve, which is a UK based startup, has raised $18.5 million to expand fan-to-fan marketing efforts. The site focuses on concert marketing and ticket sales and provides a unique opportunity to get peer-to-peer sales in live entertainment. The company, formally known as StreetTeam, also has marketing software that turns fans, into ambassadors to promote events and sell tickets to their friends.

As Spotify continues to set their sights in an IPO, the company’s recent financial successes may provide the boost they were looking for with investors. In the first half of 2017, Spotify recorded their revenue at over $2 billion. With this strong growth, Spotify’s worth has certainly increased and shares have traded at a value of $16 billion.

Spotify has released their second app, Spotify for Artists. The mobile app allows artists to track new music, update profiles and gather metrics about the people listening to their content. According to Spotify’s product manager, Miles Lennon, all artist should download the app because it “puts control directly into your hands, whether you’re on the road, in the studio, or wherever.”

Augmented reality (AR) applications are quickly taking over, but there is one part of AR that is being revolutionized and that is audio AR. Hearables are smart headphones that pair with your phone and give users the ability to create their own music to listen to based on environment preferences. While technology, such as Hearables, is still new and has a lot to still be developed it is certainly a step in a new era of music listening.
